Hmm a little background info would have helped but...

Can you do any fast single-stroke rolls?

Running a single-stroke roll across your snare then tom then another tom then floor tom- or any variation of that a la Keith Moon- is great for impressing some people, but only at reasonably fast tempos

work on left hand right hand balance to perfection.

Learning rudiments is probably the best thing to show other people up- just knowing grooves and simple fills may not always hold up you know.

Youtube and expertvillage.com have lots of videos on rudiments.

There is always the tried and true method, just buy a double-kick bass drum pedal, and show off your foot speed- always a winner.

That said blast beats-if metal is your thing- are really intimidating in the right situation as well.

Try them all, or at least have a google into each one and see which one would suit your playing style- the world of impressive drumming is a broad one.

Here are a few suggestions: 1. try using lighter or smaller sticks. 2. dampen your drums - stuff towels or foam into your drums. this will change the sound somewhat and may not be acceptable - but your stick response will be the same and by tweaking the foam you can control the sound a bit. 3. hang blankets or tarps on the walls. you'll still be loud, but the room won't be so bright. you'll dampen the noise bouncing off the walls. 4. The drumpads Stefani mentioned are good. They may be too quiet though and your stick response may be different. 5. This is a lot of work but you can build a box around your kit. I made a two frames about 3 1/2 ft by 5 ft by 4 inches thick and tacked some canvas around them. I'd place the panels in front of my drums. Of course this takes up more space that you may not have to work with. 6. Tell your guitarist to get a bigger amp! lol I hope you guys are wearing earplugs....
