Musical Keyboard..beat making..etc..?

Well I've been working on music nearly all my life..vocally. Now it's time to come out with original instrumentals. I have Fruity Loops Producer Edition 5. It's kinda hard using the computer keyboard to play keys. I'm VERY NEW to deciding on musical keyboards (and very clueless about them). I was wondering if there's a keyboard that would let me use Fruity Loops's instruments insted of the keyboard's stock ones..like a midi or something? I was wondering if it'll still have full studio quality results. I've been looking around musicianfriends.com and I'm clueless on what I should be looking for. My budget is under $150...

Okay here's the deal any midi controller will work just fine so it's all about what features you want it to have. You can pay less money and get a very basic controller that will allow you to play the sounds on your computer exactly how they are meant to sound. Or you can spend more money to get a controller with more features. For your price range and experience I'd find the cheapest controller I could. Now remember A MIDI CONTROLLER DOES NOT PRODUCE IT'S OWN SOUNDS so with that in mind you had better have sounds already on your computer that the midi controller can access and use.



A midi controller is merely the physical device used to manipulate virtual sounds. a basic controller wll allow you to access and control these sounds. A more advanced controller with modulation, pitch bend/shift, rate, sustain, attack, and delay knobs will give you more customization to work with but it will cost more. Also many of these features can be tweaked within your program itself.



If you are seriously looking into to using a midi interface with professional quality check out the "Reason" software by propellerhead. It is the top of the line when it comes to midi and programming in general.
