1974 Epiphone FT-570SB Vintage Jumbo Acoustic Guitar.
Any info or input on this guitar would be appreciated. Here are a few pics. http://www.guitarbroker.com/8402a.jpg... http://www.guitarbroker.com/8402b.jpg... http://www.guitarbroker.com/8402.jpg...
I can pick it up for $480 and I've located the same guitar online for $750 - $999. So the question is buy or pass? Thanks in advance for your opinions and any insight you have on this guitar! Peace!

The guitar is visually aesthetic. Do you know how old it is? What kind of wood it is made from? Are the tuning keys brass? Any special features (aside from being "jumbo")?

I chose my guitar at a reputable local dealer's who had a very good selection, and at a time of the year when they had a big sale. I myself would never buy a guitar without hearing the sound. I narrowed my search down to: an Ovation, a Tackamine, and a Yamaha. The beautiful sound of the Yamaha won me over. It has rosewood, is fringed with abalone and has brass tuning keys. I got it for $700. Yamaha offers a life-time warranty. I have played a $15,000 hand-made flute in a 10-piece band that was loaned to me from the military. It blew my $2,000 Yamaha flute away, but I was happy with that purchase as well.

I have heard of Epiphone but am not informed when it comes to vintage guitars. Do you have other guitars? If so, buying vintage would be justifiable, however, if this is to be your primary guitar, don't you think you'd do better getting one more mainstream and practical for your needs? You'd also want to make sure it's not warped (if the owner did not use proper humidifier for dry conditions, etc). Good luck with your quest!

3 things:

1-Never buy a guitar that you haven't played.

2-Epiphone makes better electric guitars than acoustic.

3-Guitar collectiing can be taken too far. Is there a guitar that you already have that would serve this Epi's purpose?

I realize it's a good guitar and a pretty good deal. but I'd never buy a guitar that I've never played.
