Hi,
I have always been very into music and especially EDM. Producing it is always something I wanted to do, but I always get very overwhelmed when I try. I have FL Studio 11 and am completely lost, can anyone link me to some nice presets or tutorials that will help me get started? I am interested in making melodic dubstep, chillout and electro.
thanks

Absolute rubbish what that guy said about FL - not that I'm holding this up a something to aspire to, but heck, even Animals was made using FL...

Afterall, no matter what the genre, the DAW is only the 10% - it's the plug-ins and sound design (or more likely, presets), that are 90% of the track.

But really though, the best thing to do is spend 2 weeks and each day those weeks, make sure to watch 1+ hour tutorials. Just go onto YouTube, type in eg "liquid dubstep fl studio tutorial", set the filter to > 20 minutes and you'll have a whole page of tutorials for your viewing pleasure...

Something that is INCREDIBLY useful though is watching tutorials for other genres though, as you will learn techniques that you can incorporate into your own sound that will give you a massive edge! I mean, you could check out some uplifting trance tutorials, some trap ones, heck, even some pop tutorials - all of them will help MASSIVELY!

Okay, I have. Been producing EDM for close to 2 years now and I personally don't recomend fl studio. Ableton Live 9 is the best and if you don't have money for it get the trial. Just keep your music genuine and don't go over board on the sampling. Make your own sound. Get a midi controller. Learn keyboard if possible. Its quite a learning curve but after some online tutorials and research you will get the hang of it. Best wishes.
