Question:
Guitar Cables Not Working? Connection Problem?

When I'm trying to play along to a backing track with my guitar, the sound from my amp always wavers in and out. Like I'll be playing some notes and then the sound goes in and out (really hard to explain) and sounds sorta choppy. I know it's my guitar cables/cords, what can I do to fix this? It makes me really mad, whenever I'm playing and I have to shake my guitar cables so they'll work, and then when they dont work, I throw my guitar on my bed.

Some cables can be fixed, some can't

It's not easy to answer your question on the net, without seeing the cords. Especially since you seem to have a short fuse.

Usually, it's easier to buy a GOOD new one.

It may be more hassle fixing the old one, if you don't have someone there to help you fix it.

Another thing to look at, is the connection, where the cord plugs into the guitar, or amp.

These can get loose too.

If you can tighten the nut on the OUTside of the amp, do that, slowly and carefully.

I wouldn't touch the inside of amp, if I were you, there is a lot of voltage in there.

But you can at least tighten up the nut on the jack plate, on the guitar.

The cable inside the jack plate can go bad too.

It's easy to show, hard to explain.

The wires which connect to the connector have probably come loose. Since you said its a guitar cable then its more than likely mono, meaning there is the hot portion which is the tip, and ground, the bottom portion, either one could have come loose since they are separate wires. If you have a cable which you can unscrew the barrel from the bottom of the connector you can see what I'm talking about. If you know how to use a soldering iron then you can fix it your self, if not you will have to just go buy a new one or get it repaired (I would suggest buying a knew one if you can't solder it). If it doesn't unscrew i.e. its one of those cheap little cords with insulation all the way up to the bottom of the connector you pretty much have to buy a new one.

As a side note some guitar cords have green or red stress relief boots over the barrels this can be cut away for access to the removable barrel.

Something is probably lose inside the cable causing connection problems....I would try to secure the connection better and make sure its not loose......you can also have it checked out by someone or buy a new cable.

I had the same problem....your cable probably shorted out......you might need to buy a new one....
