I use GHS Fast Fret to clean my strings, its the stick type with the cleaning bit at the end. Im just wondering how i can get rid of the grime and much off the end as surely im just putting it all back on the strings and it doesnt seem to be cleaning the strings as good as it first did.

i always wash my hands before playing. to clean your strings, try this- first pinch the wound strings between your thumb & forefinger & pick each one up 1/4" off the neck & allow them to pop back down. this will help dislodge dirt from the windings. then use a clean dry lint-free cloth to wipe the strings, including the underside. then spray a light film of "fingerease' lubricant over the fretboard & wipe down with a clean cloth. fast fret just gums up wound strings. i call it "right guard", cause itd be about as effective as a deodorant as it is on strings

Do not "Fret" over this. Ha!!

There many ways to clean. Here a link you can check out that some use; http://www.music123.com/Dunlop-System-65-Guitar-Maintenance-Kit-i235437.music

$20 plus shipping.

I not use this "much" but my friends do. I use a Real "Chamois" cloth. Got a small @ Wal-Wort for around $7 I think. I keep it wiped down before returning to the case. Very seldom I borrow my friends "Dunlop 65" Ha!! Now you know why I said "much" earlier. One day when they run out, I may buy then, heck, used sparingly it last a long time.

I use that stuff too. Dont worry about the stick getting dirty it should still work fine.

Sounds like you may not be using it enough. I use it every time i get done playing the stick stays pretty clean.

Uh, the logical answer would be to buy new strings, pal, or remove them prior to cleaning.
