The only part you can really understand in it is something like "even though they cross the road like butterflies" "she don't know but it chases them away" or something like that.. and adam sandler re-wrote it once on a snl skit.

Jfoxie is right on with the lyrics.

The story behind that song is simpler than the haunting lyrics imply, but they are superb lyrics.. raw and real and representative of that kind of life. Concrete Pillow.

Vedder said that during sessions, while on a break in the set, he stood watching outside the window and saw this guy who inspired these lyrics. Eddie and the band were very charitable towards Seattle street kids and are still to this day. They have given alot of time and money for Youth Care here, and they still do benefits for one event or another. They do put their money where their mouth is.

They have empathy for the mean streets of youth despair and have brought attention to the issue via their music.

The Adam Sandler video from "Opera Man" on SNL is available on YouTube. It's a good clip.

If you can't find it there, I can send it along to you.

Sandler happens to be a Pearl Jam fan.

Even Flow - Pearl Jam

Freezin', rests his head on a pillow made of concrete, again

Oh, Feelin' maybe he'll see a little better, set a days, ooh yeah

Oh, hand out, faces that he sees time again ain't that familiar, oh yeah

Oh, dark grin, he can't help, when he's happy looks insane, oh yeah

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies

Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away

Someday yet, he'll begin his life again

Life again, life again...

Kneelin', looking through the paper though he doesn't know to read,

ooh yeah

Oh, prayin', now to something that has never showed him anything

Oh, feelin', understands the weather of the winters on its way

Oh, ceilings, few and far between all the legal halls of shame, yeah

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies

Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away

Someday yet, he'll begin his life again

Whispering hands, gently lead him away

Him away, him away...

Yeah!

Woo...ah yeah...**** it up...

Even flow, thoughts arrive like butterflies

Oh, he don't know, so he chases them away

Someday yet, he'll begin his life again, yeah

Oh, whispering hands, gently lead him away

Him away, him away...

Yeah!

Woo...uh huh...yeah, yeah, mommy, mommy...

The song is called Evenflow and it was first recorded on the album Ten. The words that you just put on there are, "Evenflow, thoughts arrive like butterflies, he don't know, so he chases them away."

Good song by a good band.
