I'm 27 and I had a debate with my friend that music sucks right now because we're getting older. Maybe we just don't get it. He said it just plain sucks.

Am I just getting old? Or does music really suck right now? If so, why?

The intent why mainstream tune sucks is folks there are manner too many morons who help it. If they didn't help it and purchase into it then it might difference. I consider a tremendous quantity of youngsters or even adults have by no means been competent to consider for themselves. They have continuously depended on tv and media to inform them what's hip and funky. I understand too many folks who don't have any curiosity in venturing external of the field and exploring different avenues of artwork and tune. They depend at the radio and tv to inform them what's cool and principal. When I used to be a child developing up within the eighty s and ninety s there used to be a tremendous sort of tune genres that had been regarded mainstream. A lot of it used to be god terrible however a minimum of there have been bands who knew a factor or 2 approximately precise musicianship. Do we see any of that during mainstream tune in these days? Coldplay is suffering to stick principal and the truth that they transformed their whole sound to cater to a host of folks who with ease want anything catchy and hooky of their lives is beautiful ******* unhappy. Musicianship is useless. I am a songwriter and I am additionally a dj at a neighborhood institution. The 2 don't move hand in hand. I am unhappy and stunned that I play tune for youngsters who take ex Disney and Nickelodeon/grew to become pop begins critically, nonetheless while I inform any individual I am a songwriter and deliver them my cd they most likely simply throw it of their backseat and overlook approximately it. I am no longer announcing folks would not have the correct to discover anything in present pop tune that can be attractive....however I am announcing folks will have to no longer be afraid to discover and consider for themselves. There is plenty of rather well tune in the market that may be found out. Stop ingesting the kool help and choking on the whole lot the media shoves down your throat. Think for your self for **** sake in any other case you're the concern why mainstream tune sucks.

there could be alot of different reasons why your friend thinks like that, one of them may be that he's just devoted to his era of music. but i also have a thought about why music may suck now: and it has to do with the same reason for alot of things nowadays, ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY

things are repetitive and easy and unoriginal for one simple reason, BECAUSE IT WORKS

its sells, period. if a show gets alot of ratings on tv, is the station gonna cancel it? no, because it works. why are cars made cheaper now then 60 years ago? to make more money and less hassle. easy music is easier to make money, because these recording companies know people have simple taste. music used to be an art, sadly it doesn't work that way anymore, its more of a status, a cheap reusable tissue paper. people know it too, these knew artists coming out know they don't have to be THAT original to make money and be popular, so they don't try as hard. people's standards as a whole have come down in the past 100 years in music. there is probably some elaborate reason behind the whole change of quality in music that involves knowing about social behavior patterns of people over a large period of time., i don't know, just speculating....

i agree! i'm 21 years old, i dont own a television and i don't listen to the radio so the only time i hear new music is when i go to the bar. and that music sucks!! it's like you dont need ANY actual talent to cut a record. very dissapointed in this. but no, it's not because you're old lol. i think the reason it sucks so much is because like i said before, they are lacking in the talent department. everything is fake, even their voices. i'm dead head, thats mostly what i listen to. so i dont have to worry about that music ever sounding lousy. hope this helped :]

It sucks HARD. I'm 37 so I've had that extra decade to watch its decline into shyte. Perhaps it's because the majority of tastes are simple, like the majority of people.

I'm 24 and I've been wondering the same thing. I've been playing guitar since I was 8 years old and I wasn't allowed to listen to the local rock station in the early 90's cuz my father was hardcore born again christian. But that didn't stop ****. I used to fall asleep to Alice in Chains, David Lee Roth era Van Halen, Nirvana, Bush, Soundgarden mixed with Metallica, Led Zeppelin and the like... all playing quietly so nobody would hear me listening to "the devil's music" I've spent my whole life trying to "make it" in an original rock band like the ones that inspired me to pick up a guitar. Little did I know it was only an echo of an era's death rattle transpiring through the airwaves those summer nights in '94. I thought rock music was awesome and I thought it would just always be awesome and every year we would have some new awesome **** to listen to.

Once I got to high school in 2000, I found myself in an endless fight for acceptance. Already the masses were divided into their battalions, all wearing over priced costumes they secretly begged their mom to buy them after watching Mtv. "Preps" in my school listened to Blink 182, Sum41 or Hip Hop, I honestly dont even remember the names... but vicious attacks were dealt to Slipknot and Mudvayne kids, and the Slipknot and Mudvayne kids hated on the Avril Lavigne girls and it was just war!!! It was strange to me how the groups at school all dressed the same as their respective groups on TV. Who was mirroring who? Was Mtv mirroring us or were we mirroring Mtv?

All the meantime I was just trying to play rock, metal, sometimes screamo :( music with my band. I was a huge loser, no friends except my band, we hung out far away from everyone, in a dark corner of the school even more secluded than the marching band kids. All of a sudden Limp Bizkit and Korn are popular (2001) and **** became more relaxed, some people came to check out our band after school and thought it was awesome. So all of a sudden these "metal" bullshit bands were making it pretty big on Mtv and everyone accepted us. It was surreal. It was like Mtv flipped a switch and said "and now you will like THIS"

From 2003 onwards, there was really nothing to really impress me. I guess Avenged Sevenfold is allright, vocals can become annoying but the guitar and drums are amazing. Everyone else I've felt like they were like 2 years older than me and played the same music. Thrice, Thursday, The Used, Atreyu, My Chemical Romance... They sound like kids, their music sounds immature, it is immature by design. Well actually thrice moved on to some pretty decent work, not mainstream by any means, but thursday and the used went down the toilet with the whole emo crap, and now I meet kids who are sooooo "scene" and they dont listen to any of the bands that started the ****. You get a sellout crowd for a sellout scene...

Who actually buys music anymore?

People who are afraid of stealing... (Christians)

and People who have restricted internet (14 and below children, especially if parents are Christian)

Record companies are NOT run by people with even an inkling of musical talent. They are in it to increase shareholder value, just like any good CEO. They look for sure profits.

Take a deep breath and read how it works...

Every year, babies are born.

14 years later they get all weird and say "you don't understand me MOM, you don't get my music!!"

They see a video of some dude wearing girl pants and screaming and they think "that guy really 'gets me' his lyrics were written just for my situation"

Because THEY WERE... the record company looks for this bullshit or writes it themselves to get vulnerable future pee-ons of America to beg their mommies for this music.

They basically have no money, so then they ask "Mom I can I have this CD, or buy this song on iTunes?"

Thats how it works, and when the artist turns 20, they dump 'em. They learned their lesson with Britney Spears. **** it, every 4 years there's a fresh crop of troubled 14 year olds who havent been jaded by the same shitty music. These kids grow up to become avid Mac lovers and listen to complete **** music like John Mayer and that other wanker, Dave Matthews or Jack Johnson, or **** I dont know they all sound the same like some douche with a guitar sitting in a tile bathroom, wearing sandals...

Then there's **** like Creed and Nickelback... that's like poop mixed with ****. I can't even go there, I will puke on my computer and not be able to finish this.

Follow the money my friends. Music wont be good until people take control of their lives again and stop following everything they see on tv. Popular music is an indicator of a civilization's sophistication and attitude towards the human condition. Mainstream music in America shows that the population is simple, likes to brag, and has major major relationship problems.

Most Americans are ******* ignorant and borderline retarded zombies who parrot what they see on TV like a floc
