A correction on that answer that mentions "The Drifters": Until a two weeks ago, the only surviving original member of The Drifters was Bill Pinkney. He died on July 4th as his group The Original Drifters were preparing to perform in Daytona. (However, the show did go on.) Bill's voice will be recognized by most as the bass vocal on White Christmas (heard in the movie, Home Alone). Their version of that song is the second greatest seller behind Bing Crosby's.
Anyhow...The Orioles have been around since 1947 and are still going. They are credited as being the first doo wop group with hits such as Crying in the Chapel, It's Too Soon to Know, and more.
Both these groups are Rock & Roll Hall of Famers. I had the pleasure of performing with both on Bill Pinkney & the Original Drifters' anniversary show a few years ago in SC.

TheTemperance Seven celebrate their 50th anniversary this year, with a busy schedule including the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival at the end of this month. Kenny Ball & his jazzmen formed in 1958 & the "stones" started in 1962. However, the oldest group still performing are "The Drifters". They started in 1953, and their longest serving member, who first joined in 1955, left and then returned, was the fantastic Johnny Moore, who died in 1998.

The Crickets, Buddy Holly's old band is still performing. This is the oldest band with original members I can think of.
The Shadows were also formed in th 50's and still performing.

Many so-called "original" bands are anything but - the Stones are not the original lineup. Where do you draw the line?
