I'm a bassist who's started playing a lot more six-string electric too. I've got a decent little Ibanez 20 watt bass amp that came with my Ibanez bass and I was wondering whether how I would go about using it with a guitar. Or will I just have to buy a little practise amp? I don't wanna spend too much money, but I'd buy a preamp or anything to plug into my bass amp to make it sound better...

What kind of EQ settings should I have? (I have an EQ pedal)

is there anything I should be careful about while using a bass amp with an electric 6-string?

You won't hurt anything. Bass amps are not usually designed to produce distortion, so if that's the kind of sound you're going for you probably will want to buy a distortion pedal.

As far as EQ, just set it to where it sounds good to you. Even if we knew the exact guitar, amp, and EQ you're using we don't know what tones you're going for. Turn them knobs and push the sliders around!

Good luck.

You won't hurt the amp. You'll probably want to tweak the EQ differently than how it's set for your bass guitar. The shortcoming is that you won't have any effects like distortion or reverb/delay. That's no big deal, you can use pedals. For many years, the holy grail of lead guitar amps was a classic fender bassman tube head, so there's nothing unusual about playing through a bass head. Here are some examples....of course, your Ibanez can't be compared to a vintage Fender.....

The sparkling Tone's will be ok, even with the undeniable fact that the better register of the device ought to sound muddy because bass speaker's do no longer have as huge a frequency decision as guitar. the overall consensus on overdrive tones in bass amps is they don't look to be produced besides, yet when the in reality amp you've is that Peavey it is more suitable than no longer something. BTW, i comprehend a guy who ran a Digitech RP modeller via an distinctly less expensive crappy intense wattage bass amp for years till he were given a Mesa Mark IV rig, and that change into surely passable for both innovative metallic besides as jazz ensemble, so that you should opt to bypass that direction.

Just plug your guitar into the amp in the normal way, and use it! Use all the controls (eq included) to produce sounds you like.

It's a bass amp so it might not really do your guitar justice - it's not designed to make a guitar sound good, but what have you got to lose?
