So far I have spent about eight hours listening to discographies and browsing the web trying to find it. Problem is, I don't remember many of the lyrics.
It's a male singer, who sounds more like he's talking throughout the song rather than really singing. It sounds like a rant. The singer sounds like a white guy, probably in his forties at the time. So far I have gone through Supertramp and Tom Petty discographies, and it's neither of them. I would classify the song as easy listening, because its not rock-ish.
The song opens up with brass instruments, likely trumpet. I've come to refer to the song as "what an 80's businessman drives his Porsche convertible to". Throughout the song, male singers back the lead vocalist up by singing "mm, mm." It sounds like the lead vocalist has a lot of questions throughout the song, because the only lyric I do remember is "where is my role model".
If anyone has an answer for me here, I would be eternally grateful. This is driving me nuts! Thanks!
