Folk/Blues song
This lyric was written on a prompt from someone on the Blues-L group who asked for a song incorporating the Ben Franklin quote. I VERY seldom write 'political' songs but the **** that's been going on is sickening. I just read we have 132,000 troops there, and a week or so ago I read the American death toll reached 2,500 (or something like that). G.W's friends will make billions rebuilding Irag while America goes to hell! The lyric is unfinished, critique from a 'non-comercial' perspective. This song will, probably, not be played in Kansas City or Dallas, Texas. Actually except on PBS or college stations, the way radio is today, it probably won't get played in NYC
The Pres says... let us check your mail and calls
He is stupid or he has a lot of balls!
Ben Franklin; "those who would trade liberty for security deserve neither"
I guess George W. never studied this in Yale; where he was a cheater!
Because freedom ain't something they give away
With a $25 purchase at Wal-Mart today!
Freedom has a price; usually blood
And it demands the young while still a stud!
George Bush wants the Fed's to be my mommy
I always thought that was the definition of a commie!
So keep your hands out my pocket; I don't need you
Cause the young men gave up lives I can tell you; "go screw!"
Because freedom ain't something you buy
On sale only 19.95, plus shipping, that's just a lie!
I pity the fools who fall for that sales pitch
Cause freedom ain't free and life is still a *****!
I remember 'cell phones' hung on County Jail walls
I wasn't answering them or waiting for calls!
And, no, I didn't do the crime
I kept my mouth shut and did the time!
No freedom needs work,
I don't mean 1000 censors you jerk!
Freedom ain't something conjured up by a witch
No freedom ain't free; and life is still a *****!!!...

"The Blues are the roots, and the other music is the fruits." One of Willie Dixon's favorite sayings, from I Am the Blues by Willie Dixon with Don Snowden (DaCapo, 1989)
"Life is like music, it must be composed by ear, feeling and instinct, not by rule. Nevertheless one had better know the rules, for they sometimes guide in doubtful cases, though not often." --Samuel Butler (1612-80), English poet, Author
"Simple music is the hardest music to play and blues is simple music." --Albert Collins
