Early years - I was exposed to Abba, Boney M, Lena Martell. Additionally siblings would be into The Jam, The Monkees, The Beatles, The clash and The Who, little bit of rolling stones and the Beach Boys too. Through the 80's when growing up, everything was new romantic synth - like Culture club or Duran Duran, Gary Numan. I thought I was being rebellious listening to Iron Maiden :-)

I developed completely different taste in music - favouring Classic & neo prog-rock. Also heavy metal and hard rock. Any heavily guitar orientated music from alternative & stoner rock through to thrash metal. Barely listen to the artists above, a part from the stones and the who (now & then). If you look at some of the answers on metal preference - you can see how passionate fans are about the genre, never leaves them.

A large mix of different genres. My father likes classic rock (like '60s and '70s stuff, things like Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd) and my mother listens to a mix of country music and then some rock (like Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp), so I primarily was exposed to that sort of music as a young child. Plus I watched a lot of VH1 and MTV while growing up in the '90s, so I was exposed to everything from '80s music (like on Pop-Up Video on VH1) to popular music that was on MTV during the '90s. The first music I really got into myself was mid- to late '90s alternative rock. I don't know how much of an influence the stuff my parents listened to influenced my current taste though, because it couldn't be more different. I listen to a wide variety of genres now, but broadly, primarily goth and industrial (and if anything, I'd say my taste towards that came from some of the eighties music I heard when I was younger, like new wave music).

First of all, I am older, so I was a child in the late 60s and 70s. My father listened to only country. My mother listened to only Gospel. My older siblings would sneak in the rock music of the time. (things like The Beatles and the Beach Boys.) I was a teenager in the early 80s, so rock music was my interest then.

None. We never had music on at home. My parents just weren't interested in it. Which is very strange considering I'm now a professional musician...

My father always showed me the music he listened to when he was younger. Basically, rock and pop from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

I live in abject poverty. I do not know anyone who does not live in abject poverty. The only songs we can tolerate are by Journey and the Beach Boys. Warm, happy songs about the past.
