Question:
Is it normal for a teenager to like music from the 80's and 70's?
2006-12-28 18:01:31 UTC
I like music from the 80's, like GN'R and AC/DC, and some groups from the 70's like Van Halen. I like music from back then because a lot of music these days are from bands that suck, like rap groups, or punk rock groups, and music from back then seemed like good music.

My 14 year old son is pulling out my old cds all the time. We listened to to "Back in Black" on the way to the grandparents this weekend.

I started listening to older rock back when I was 12 I think. That's when my dad started buying various artist cds from the 70's. And that started my life long passion for everything music. Don't stop at the 70's. If AC/DC are the type of bands you like go back even further to the 60's. Listen to some Led Zepplin. Get in to other types of rock like psychedelic rock. Vanilla Fudge mostly covered old songs and made them their own but they're good. Download Kick out the Jams by MC5. And when your ready for the good stuff go back to the 50's...all the way back to when rock and roll first came to be. Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats is reportedly one of the first rock and roll songs ever recorded.

Yeah, it's normal! I love ac/dc CCR, guns'n'roses, Van Halen, the Beetles, the temptations, through the looking glass, and a lot more! It seems like the lyrics are so much more meaningful and the artists are much more talented than the ones today. I absolutely cannot stand rap and r&b and stuff like that. I pretty much only listen to oldies, alternative, indie, rock, and country.

When I was a teenager in the 80's, I was very much influenced by the music my two older brothers listened to. This made me a little out of sync from what almost everyone else in my high school was listening to (there weren't too many Jethro Tull fans in my high school in 1985.)

When I got a little older I started to discover music that I liked on my own and the ironic thing is it was in the mid- to late-nineties that I started getting into some of the great 1980's alternative bands. Bands my buddies in high school were listening to when we in school together.

Now my attitude is simply this...normal, schmormal...if it is good music, who cares when it was made? My point is listen to whatever you like (I listen to EVERYTHING) and don't close yourself off completely to some of today's artists. There is still lots of good music being made.

Why wouldnt it be? My daughter is 13 and she loves all kinds of music from classical to hard rock. Her new passion is 80's music. Having a taste for all kinds of music is a great. It shows you are open to new and different things.

My 15 year old daugher is exactly the same way. She listens to 80's stuff almost exclusively. This includes Motley Crue, Ratt, Cinderella, Pantera, Van Halen, stuff like that. She even listens to 80's pop singles like stuff from the Movie Footloose, Duran Duran songs, and lately she's addicted to "I'm too Sexy". lol

It's fun for me because we get to go to concerts together. We've seen Metallica, Motley Crue twice, and we went to Ozzfest this summer.

I myself am 11 and listen to Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and many other old bands. It is not unusual, it just means that person likes that kind of music. Plus, I agree with you rap is C***

Of course, its normal to like good music, doesn't matter when its from. There are still a lot of good bands out there today though, if you can find them amongst all the crap.
2006-12-28 18:15:35 UTC
Of course dude, it seems like today anyone can compose a song because you hear the same crap over and over. Todays music definitely sucks.

It's really cool for you to like what you like. Most kids are lazy with music and just follow the current mainstream hits.

Air grant grow to be solid; some super songs. every physique that disagrees isn't respecting your acceptable to compliment what you like.

it is normal. dont be confused by looking at teens who lived by the rule that certain music is for them, its like fashion, ever changing.. a trend. music is an art form... it does not matter which year is it from and what not.

Sure.

There isn't a "norm" for what you want to listen to.

That's your own personal opinion.

To be honest, I like those bands too but my

music taste varies.

You listen to what YOU want.

Hell yeah! Shows you have more taste and appreciate music. Definately better than teeny boppers who love their bubblegum songs while they are still in the charts and then forget who they are when the next 'big thing' pops up. Long live the Clash!
