I thought of the Toad song as well, but the correct answer is Spacehog. The song is "In the Meantime". The lyrics are:

Maybe not what you are thinking of, but it sounds a bit like "All in All" by Toad the Wet Sprocket. One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands.
