CB was my first drumset, it definitely is a beginner set but it isnt so horrible that you cant stand hearing it. if sound quality is still getting on your nerves, pop some new heads on the drums and get better cymbals. zildjians are the best, but paiste or sabian are just fine for beginners.

Most major brands sell a beginners line of drums. But, if it is poorly made it will sound bad. Don't buy a $150 drum kit! Save some money($500 and up) and look around. A used kit is a great way to go. And then you can add on as you get better. Pearl is good and affordable drum set, but they all have different lines for sale. My first kit was a 1965 Gretsch that I bought in 1980 for $400. My Second kit was a Pearl masters custom That I bought in 1994 for $3000. Plus about $1800 in cymbals( I had a job!) The most important thing is the quality of the wood, and how that effects the sound. If you don't think you will play forever, don't spend top dollar (my bass drum alone cost me $1000!). Go to your local music store and play some drums, ask about the wood each kit is made of and compare many kits to one another. Ask a sales rep. what kind they played. Get some input, then, go and look for it used so you don't spend as much. Also, new kits rarely come with cymbals. Used ones often do. And, don't buy cheap cymbal packages. A good one should cost between $80-$200. Used, $40-$125. Pearl, Ludwig, Yamaha, Rogers, Slingerland are all good. My favorite is DW(more of a pro kit like Neil Peart, Danny Carey, Terry Bozzio

make investments in a strong set in case you imagine you'll play drums for no less than 5 years. Spending $3000 vs $800 is significant before everything, yet in case you already know you'll follow taking area in spend the further money straight away. i information Yamaha Maple custom series - a attractiveness, sweet sound + strong hardware.

Ludwig, Pearl, Tama and Yamaha - musiciansfriend.com or music123.com should have neat deals on beginner Ludwigs, like $200 or so.
