Right up front, I do not like bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco or any of the sort. So please do not suggest them.

Looking at my play list, this is what I have....it should give you a good idea of what I like. So, any artist (new or old) that you think I could get into...please, speak up! Thanks.

What a great list, mirrors my own taste. I would check out the Yardbirds (with Clapton, the Beck stuff bores me), John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (also with Clapton), Cry of Love "Brother to Brother," Al Stewart "Year of the Cat," Ten Years After "A Space in Time," and ANYTHING by Rory Gallagher. As others have said, find some early blues records. I would recommend as a primer Robert Johnson, Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, and Little Walter. All of these men had a huge influence on the burgeoning rock scene in the sixties, which has influenced everything since. Oh by the way, most country is too boring to listen to, although I too appreciate Cash and Williams Sr. Some early punk is listenable, such as the Sex Pistols, the Ramones, the Dead Kennedy's, and the Angry Samoans. Good luck and happy listening, I plan on checking out several of your choices I'm unfamiliar with.

Damn!Sounds to me like you've really covered a lot of ground on this question, but I will say all the ones you've got listed,do really shake the ground up at ear shattering magnatudes, and have you crawling back for more. But some of the others I like thumping my windows out to,and pissing off the neighbors, just to watch them ***** and complain, would be Disturbed:10,000 Fists In The Air,Pantera:Cowboys From Hell,Metallica:Master of Puppets,Megadeth:So Far,So Good,So What!,Ozzy Osbourne:Tribute To Randy Rhodes,Iron Maiden:Seventh Son of The Seventh Sun,AC/DC:1974 Jail Break Tour(LIVE),and Who made Who?,Van Halen:1984,and Best of Both Worlds Tour,Jimi Hendrix:Are You Experinced?,Alice Cooper:Best Of Alice Cooper,Aerosmith:Toys in the Attic, and Big 10' Record,Warlock:Beast from the East,N.I.N.,Slipknot,Red Hot Chili Peppers,Ect.,ect.But yeah,I don't give a damn about the types of music that's played, just so long as it sets my mood on where I'm at and what I'm doing at that point and time.4 Those About To Rock,Rap,or Swing Country or R&B,or any other thing,Stand up,and stand 4 what ya' believe in.Keeping it Real!Real Loud that is!

Wow, you put a lot of thought into this list. And it sounds like you have an excellent appreciation for good classic rock and a decent variety of genres. But you didn't list the most IMPORTANT band EVER:

Tool.

Ever since the first time i heard them in 1991, no other artist has ever meant so much to me. If you ever get the chance, you should listen to all their CDs in their chronological order and you'll hear how much they've evolved--and yet, many have tried to emulate them. None have succeeded. Millions would agree with me on this one.

Start with:

Opiate (it's more like a mini CD, like an EP, a small sampling of angst-riddled searing guitar riffs and scorching vocals.)

Undertow (my favorite, the birthplace of radio-friendly Tool)

Aenima (angrier and in your face)

Lateralus (poetic, a little dreamy, definitely strong)

10,000 Days. (a huge return, after an extended absence since Lateralus, most mature album they've done.)

Maynard James Keenan also lent his amazing vocals to bands like the Deftones and he did a collaboration with Tori Amos.

Maynard's side projects include my other personal favorite band, A Perfect Circle (dreamlike and mellower, than Tool, but still dark and heavy enough to satisfy) and a band called Puscifer.

The music is always mesmerizing and the lyrics are hypnotic.

See if you don't get wrapped up in the spell of Maynard and Co.
2007-04-16 06:39:43 UTC
Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead
2007-04-15 18:44:39 UTC
what about Iron Maiden? Now if you like Iron Maiden, then you should check out a British Metal band called Cradle of Filth. They are really influence by Iron Maiden. Cradle of Filth is Black Metal. Don't know if you are into the Black Metal stuff like Dimu Borgir and such.
A Child of the Grave
2007-04-15 17:12:27 UTC
Wow, you have Rock almost completely covered.

Alice Cooper's "A Fistful of Alice": very nice hard rock live album

Quiet Riot "any one of their earlier albums": material is similar to stuff like Whitesnake

The Scorpions' "Blackout": essential to a collection such as yours. GET THIS NOW!

I'd also recommend exploring heavy metal a bit. Here are some places to start.

Ozzy Osbourne's "Tribute": hard, in-your-face British metal

Marty Friedman's "Loudspeaker": awesome virtuoso album with a great variety

Diamond Head's "Lightning to the Nations": rockn' British metal album

Rhapsody's "Symphony of the Enchanted Lands": this stuff is just really cool. Power metal that's backed by a full symphony!

P.S. I detest the bands stated directly above this post.

P.P.S. I noticed egotrip1172 did not mention Tool is progressive metal with a hint of alternative.

Todd Rundgren

Since you mentioned Cinderella, I might also suggest you check out Britny Fox. They actually have a rather similar vocal style, and the music is along the same lines.

Another band I have really always liked was Prong.

Kyuss coz you're into Black Sabbath. I see you like The Clash, so you might like some newer punk bands like Rancid or Tiger Army. Also, if you like BB King, you'll definitely like older Blues players, such as Robert Johnson.
2007-04-16 05:54:55 UTC
First of all, I would like to say that you have excellent taste when it comes to music. In fact, we have over half of the same artists in our music library. I don't have too many that I'm sure you'd like that you don't already have, but here are a few groups I think you'd enjoy. I know I do.

By the way, if I accidentally suggest something similar to the groups you said you didn't like, please forgive me; I have no idea who they are or what their sound is like. I'm only trying to suggest names you might like, based upon your current library. Also, some groups had only one or two really good songs, so please be objective when ruling on my suggestions. Thank you.

I have arranged these alphabetically, and I have also included what style of music they play, a group with similar style (where possible - if not, will denote with "Own Style"), as well as one or two notable songs from each.

Air Supply - Love Songs; Own Style; Making Love Out of Nothing at All, Sweet Dreams

Alice Cooper - Hard Rock; Black Sabbath; School's Out for Summer

April Wine - Classic Rock; Bad Company; Sign of the Gypsy Queen; Why Did You Cry Babe

Aqua - Techno; Own Style; Barbie Girl, Roses are Red (On a side note: I know that you don't really have techno on your list, but Aqua has such an awesome sound - much more than just a good beat. If you try them, I'm sure you'll like them.)

Barry Manilow - Love Songs; Own Style; Mandy, Could it be Magic

Blackfoot - Classic Rock; ZZ Top; Black Betty, Midnight Train to Memphis

Bryan Adams - School Rock / Love Songs; Tom Petty; Summer of '69, (Everything I Do) I Do It For You

Burton Cummings - Rock / Love Songs; Own Style; Never Had a Lady Before, Stand Tall

The Cars - Classic Rock; Rush; (Let the) Good Times Roll, Magic

Cher - Classic Rock; Own Style; Love Hurts, If I Could Turn Back Time

Dan Fogelberg - Love Songs; Jim Croce; Leader of the Band, Longer

Evanescence - Hard (Gothic) Rock; Black Sabbath; Bring Me to Life, Call Me When You're Sober

Foreigner - Classic Rock; Own Style; Cold as Ice, Dirty White Boy (Most of their best songs are on their album "Records." Every song on that album spent considerable time on the radio.)

Genesis & Phil Collins after he sent solo

- Genesis - Classic Rock; Own Style; Turn it on Again

- Phil Collins; Soft Rock; Own Style; Another Day in Paridise

Huey Lewis and the News - Classic Rock; Tom Petty; Heart of Rock and Roll; Workin' for a Livin'
