Here is some old stuff you definately need to check out.

The Beatles(of course) recommended albums: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Abbey Road, Revolver, Let It Be.

Led Zeppelin: some of the best guitar work you will ever hear. John Bonham is perhaps the greatest drummer ever. Excellent marriage between hard rock riffs and traditionally blues melodies. Recommended albums: Led Zeppelin IV, Led Zeppelin I.

Pink Floyd: very simple and presice melodies. much calmer than Zeppelin, but when they want to rock they really rock. recommended albums: Wish You Were Here, Dark Side of the Moon (must listen to this all the way through. one of the greatest rock albums of all time)

Eric Clapton: arguably the greatest guitarest ever (need I say more). recommended albums: Slowhand, Unplugged (fantastic on acoustic).

Cream: an early Eric Clapton Band. only had three albums but still amazing.

Jimi Hendrix: check out Are You Experienced

The Doors: great 60s rock. great keyboards. all around solid band.

Fleetwood Mac: recommended album: Rumours

Queen: c'mon everyone knows Queen. recommended albums: A Night at the Opera, Queen II

Those are just a few to get you started
