Which instrumentalist is superior- the keyboardist or the guitarist? I have always thought keyboardists are much better as they have to work harder to be recognised within their band. What do you think? Give examples please!

Keyboard players can play 10 notes at once, though I've seen some organs with foot petals.
Guitars however can play in between notes and the strings can be stretched along with other effects.
A toss-up to me.

The keyboardist is better. I am a keyboard player and not only can a keyboard play bass ( as in the case of The Doors) but can jam to no end with 10 fingers playing! Guitarists get the girls because they are up front and can move like the girls want. Keyboardists don't necessarily have to work harder to get good at their instruments but they have to work harder to be seen.

Guitarist, due to their mobility and visual dynamism are usually more exciting to see and hear during instrumentals. The instrument is more intimate and accessible on stage to listeners than an Grand Piano, Synth or Keyboard. Technically, both can be breathtaking in executing the instrumental, although by design..the keyboard has the greater polyphony. At the end of the day..I think it's all context dependant..relying on preference and suitability rather than superiority. Some instrumentals cry out for guitar solo's and some for keyboard, depending on the style and dynamics of a particular piece.

I really don't understand your question. There are good pianists and good guitarists. Everything in this world is not a contest, an either/or situation... and not everything that has to do with music has to do with recognition in a band.
I do know for a fact that instrumentalists are recognized less and less as the music business gets dumber and dumber and more superstar oriented. And part of it has to do with the fact that fewer and fewer young people take the time to learn to master their instruments, because they think that the lead singer is the most important part of it all.
I admire anyone who practices long and hard and plays their instrument well.

geez thats a tough one. Guitarists have their place, but I honestly think the keyboardist has an even bigger place. So much more to choose from with a keyboard. Both take some skill to play though.

Guitars are harder to play because the logic and under standing is far more complex to the extents that you would need to be good at physics to under stand. The guitar is not conveniently broken up it no notes, Guitarist should have a basic understanding of producing and fx as well as understanding the equipment needed used in conjunction with the guitar.Guitarist also have to work harder because there is more expected of them.

Guitarist - find some stuff by Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.
I play both instruments and I get more of a thrill playing the guitar than the keyboard.

I think keyboardists have much more musical ability. They usually have vocal pitch problems. I think both can be recognized within their band; for exaple my husband is a keyboardist and he always shines when he is on stage due to his charisma. I hope this helps.

Dolly for the two. Dolly no longer in basic terms writes music, yet she will additionally play an tool. Whitney is the greater advantageous singer however. P.S.- You replied your very own question; you will desire to have waited till ultimately you picked a suitable answer till now giving your the explanation why. by definition of a "music author" and an "instrumentalist" human beings could be stupid to no longer %. Dolly.

I'm a guitarist. But I say neither. I think the brass and woodwind section has to work the hardest because they are creating the note with their own breath. Everything comes from them; no amps or synths or effects pedals, y'know?

Don't just limit yourself to rock and pop, classical pianists are amazing. they perform the most complicated and profound music without the notes before them. Check out Murray Perahia playing Bach's Goldberg Variations - 73 mins of bliss. It takes me to another level. Amazing.
On the Rock front David Gilmour of Pink Floyd plays guitar to die for! Comfortably Numb is amazing.

The Guitarist would be my choice! It is harder to master the guitar than it is the piano!
