YAHOO PEOPLE!!!! It is not our job to tell folks how to parent their child....we are here to ask/answer questions WITHOUT INJECTING OUR OWN RUDE PERSONAL OPINIONS!!!

Dear Concerned Mom,

Please let me apologize .....just HAD to get that out of my system. It is true that the list you have is the name of bands, not song titles. What you really need to focus on is the lyrics within an individual song. The reason I say this is because all of these bands have songs that cover a wide variety of topics, while none of them FOCUS on satanism. There are love songs, there are hate songs but quite honestly, I think that the main topic most of these bands share is not satanism but drugs.

However, most songs that DO focus on satanism are in the music genre of heavy metal.

The only way that I know of that you could monitor the content and exclude all satanic songs is by song, not by band or by eliminating the genre of heavy metal.

Best of luck to you, dear.

Well, I hope you are somewhat familiar with Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. I don't know if you would take my advice, I love the same kind of music, but I appreciate a wide variety of music as well. I strongly recommend your son give a listen to Tool, my favorite all time by far. By the way I am 28 years old, college graduate, father of 2, husband, responsible citizen.

I'm pretty sure none of these bands are "satanic." I know of some bands that are borderline satanic and these are not like them. The common element in your sons musical taste is the actual music, the arrangements, the attitude. If there is a common element in the message it would be something about the frustration of making sense of a chaotic and cruel world and the triumphs and failures we experience as we come of age as young men. Maybe questioning authority is another thread. Surely nothing to be too concerned about. Definitely not Satan. But definitely not Jesus either. Zeppelin had some black magic thing going on, but they are the greatest hard rock/metal band ever and everyone should listen to them if they choose.

try asking him what it is about the music he likes. he'll probably enjoy talking about it. and ask him about tool, they are brilliant!

I honestly don't believe any of these groups are satanic. And if your son is a teenager (which I'm guessing because one would think a person wouldn't concern herself with the musical choices of an adult child) you yourself should be quite familiar with some of these groups - I'm 34 and Led Zepelin and Pink Floyd came out before I did. Misfits and the Clash are from my childhood years. I've never heard of Chariot and I do know that a now former member of Korn became a born again christian a year or two ago.

I used to listen to metal all the time and I'm also a Christian. However, I came to a point where I discovered the impact it had on me. Metal in general just isn't uplifting music. As a Christian, I believe we are to be continually jovial people, but we can't be if we surround ourselves with certain vibes. (By jovial, I'm not talking about smiley, happy, feel-good nonsense, but rather at peace). I personally am open to many, many genres, so I'm not a limited listener, by any means. I can definently see where this guy is coming from, and to a certain point, I agree. I think it's all about perception and your spiritual walk. I believe that God allows wordly things, such as music here, to be used for the better. I believe that metal instrumentals can both be uplifting and a tool to bring believers down. I have felt God's presence during a metal instrumental at some points, but it's a rareity. I think the situation depends, and that our convictions can guide us on a daily basis. I choose not to listen to metal anymore, because I don't want to take any chances with being caught up in my past emotions. That's just me personally. There are members of my church who listen to "White Metal", but honestly, from the outside, it appears like Black Metal. Keep in mind that music in general can be satanic. Just don't be naive and don't be decieved, because that sort of message is everywhere. Edit: I was just reading through some of the other answers on here and I'd like to add something. What are dynamics? How about the effects of minor/major chords, scales, etc? What effect does screaming have on the mind? I believe it causes stress and brings negativity. I'm sorry, but if instrumentals don't have an affect on someone, why listen at all? What about Romantic Classical, for instance. Don't they bring moods with their sound? Ever listened to Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, Chopin, Saint-Saens, or Grieg? The music alone, sets the tone and typically gloom. However, some had a lighter feel and produced much more beautiful sounds. This instrumental music has affects on us. Listen to John Coltrane and see if you hear different moods such as agony, love, distress, joy, disgust, curiousity, or peace. This is a great place to hear a whole spectrum of emotions with instrumentals. Also, I believe we interpret these sounds differently... one may hear passion, while another may hear frustration.

NONE, I listen to most of them and know of all of them so I would kinnda know.

Also, most of this isn't even considered heavy metal (especially not Pink Floyd or the Clash). Don't worry about your kid listening to metal. I listen to metal and hard rock and I'm a pretty okay kid. I have a high average, don't do drugs, party or drink and I never speak back to my parents, so rock doesn't make all children rebelious.

Just let he listen to what he wants because you putting pressure on him to chage what he likes if it doesn't harm him will only push him away from you and that's when you will start having problems.

Kids need room to grow and be themselves and you can't supress it or they will resent you for it and the last thing you need is a kid that sees you as a enemy.

Please also bear in mind that by telling your child not to listen to these bands, he/she will be more inclined to. Not becuase of you being overbearing, but that's how kids work.

None of the bands on here are Satanic. I am a fan of some of these and am familair with the others.

May I also suggest listening to Pink Floyd. You'll find they do not fit in with any of the other bands on here and are pretty much on the other end of the spectrum. I'm sure you're child would be happy that his/her mother has a similar taste in music, and maybe you could discover more of their work together.

These are not songs, they are groups. They're satanic if that's what your narrow-mind leads you to believe. As a parent you should talk to your child and find out why he or she likes this particular music. Don't be harsh or judgmental, that will just make them that more defensive. Listen with your heart and really care about what your child has to say. Research the groups so that you're more aware of their music.

okay mom. do some research on anton lavey satanism first. you'll first find that none of these bands are satanic and satanism is just atheism with a different name. the church of satan does not believe in any god or even the devil. that is popular misconception about the church that was brought on by christian media. let your damn kid listen to what he wants. do you really think your god will keep him out of your heaven for listening to a damn pink floyd or clash or led zeppelin song? i would hope not.

Blaming heavy metal music for influencing children is like blaming Ronald McDonald when you get a bad cheeseburger. Neither one of them is running the show.

BTW- if you tell your teens that they are not allowed to listen to these bands - guess what? Those bands just got 10 times more attractive. (Romeo and Juliet syndrome)

I wouldn't worry too much- I have raised 2 to adulthood without incident- while they were listening to metal, punk and (god-help-me) 'gangsta' rap.

It's had very little bearing on their behavior.

It's just music.

Well, looking the band names up in Wikipedia would give you an idea of what their songs contain, what they're like, and so on.

I've only heard a handful of songs by about half of those artists, and from that experience, none of them are particularly satanic. Just have some real hard guitar-mashings.

A few songs by System of a Down may fit into that category, but it all depends on what you think of as 'satanic'.

None of these bands are Satanic. Or, for that matter, sing about anything remotely Satanic. You should stop worrying, at least your son isn't into Christina Aguilara or Eminem. Now THAT is evil music, lol.

i can't ease all your worries, but i'll do what i can.

led zeppellin-- just old fashion rock.

the clash-- classic punk

pink floyd-- more classic rock

korn-- no satanism here, just some boys from So. Cal blowing off steam

slipknot-- theraputic anger release, but devoid of devil worship.

system of a down-- political commentary set to a rock beat.

Honestly, I don't think any of those bands are!!

I don't know who the chariot are, or not to much about the used, but the rest of them especially PINK FLOYD!!! God no!!!

why don't you listen to a bit of their material?

also, you should let your son listen to whatever music he wants, well, unless the lyrics are, 'i love satan' etcetc!!

if you don't let him listen to these things, you're denying him of the right to listen to the music HE likes!!!

You can't do shelter him forever!!

...last thing: if you don't want him to listen to them, he'll want to do it even more...

those bands are fine...

slipknot a bit iffy, but not satanic!!

Led Zeppelin is said that it's satanic (Stairway to heaven)

But unless he is very addicted to these songs there shouldn't be any problem even if you listen to Death Metal or something like this (Children of bodom ... )

Mainly it's music, not lyrics, the kids like "noise" as you probably call it

If you just like the music it isn't any problem at all.

None, really. IMHO he'll hear more about the devil in church than listening to any of these groups... You want him to listen to Catholic music ? Please... Sorry to say it that way, but it's not because your mind has been dominated by the church, that you have to ruin your son's life along with yours.
