I used to listen to metal all the time and I'm also a Christian. However, I came to a point where I discovered the impact it had on me. Metal in general just isn't uplifting music. As a Christian, I believe we are to be continually jovial people, but we can't be if we surround ourselves with certain vibes. (By jovial, I'm not talking about smiley, happy, feel-good nonsense, but rather at peace). I personally am open to many, many genres, so I'm not a limited listener, by any means. I can definently see where this guy is coming from, and to a certain point, I agree. I think it's all about perception and your spiritual walk. I believe that God allows wordly things, such as music here, to be used for the better. I believe that metal instrumentals can both be uplifting and a tool to bring believers down. I have felt God's presence during a metal instrumental at some points, but it's a rareity. I think the situation depends, and that our convictions can guide us on a daily basis. I choose not to listen to metal anymore, because I don't want to take any chances with being caught up in my past emotions. That's just me personally. There are members of my church who listen to "White Metal", but honestly, from the outside, it appears like Black Metal. Keep in mind that music in general can be satanic. Just don't be naive and don't be decieved, because that sort of message is everywhere. Edit: I was just reading through some of the other answers on here and I'd like to add something. What are dynamics? How about the effects of minor/major chords, scales, etc? What effect does screaming have on the mind? I believe it causes stress and brings negativity. I'm sorry, but if instrumentals don't have an affect on someone, why listen at all? What about Romantic Classical, for instance. Don't they bring moods with their sound? Ever listened to Rachmaninoff, Horowitz, Chopin, Saint-Saens, or Grieg? The music alone, sets the tone and typically gloom. However, some had a lighter feel and produced much more beautiful sounds. This instrumental music has affects on us. Listen to John Coltrane and see if you hear different moods such as agony, love, distress, joy, disgust, curiousity, or peace. This is a great place to hear a whole spectrum of emotions with instrumentals. Also, I believe we interpret these sounds differently... one may hear passion, while another may hear frustration.
