Just to throw some names out... Steve Gadd, Harvey Mason (Head Hunters!), Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, etc.

I'm talking groove like in Stanley Clarke's "silly putty" with Steve Gadd to Harvey Mason on w/ Herbie Hancock on Chameleon to Dave Weckl on Hesitation or The Chicken on his live album.

Billy Cobham his cd "Spectrum" on Atlantic(also songs: "Moon Germs, "Crosswinds,' "Pleasant Pheasant").. Dave Garibaldi of Tower of Power(CD:Drop It In The Slot"), Zig Modeliste of the original Meters(Songs: "Africa," "Look A Py Py," "Sissy Strut," "Hey Pocky Way," ""People Say") The Meters have a live cd "Live On The ?????" Some riverboat. Have you heard cd:"Mwandishi" by Herbie H? How about "Straight Life" by Freddie Hubbard? Check out Weather Report cd's such as "Sweetnighter." On that cd, Herschel Dwellingham KILLS on "125th Street Congress." Al Jackson grooved on all the Booker T and The MG's stuff(Hip Hug Her, Jellybread,) and also on the Otis Redding Stuff like"Hard To Handle(original version)," "Tramp(w/ Carla Thomas)" and "Nobody's Fault But Mine." Check out Earl Palmer and those other guys on all the Little Richard classic cuts("Good Golly Miss Molly," "Hey Hey Hey Hey," "Ready Teddy" etc) . The Ray Charles 50's stuff all have great drummers. See if you can un-earth early 60's stuff by the Wailers from Seattle w/ Mike Burk on drums("Mashi," "Ya Ya" "Back To You" etc) AND YOU HAVE TO check all the James Brown 70's stuff("Funky President," "There It Is," "I Got That Feelin'" "Make It Funky" "Sex Machine" etc etc

good nighttime KP :) i do not price any of them, as you'll see even as i'm requested to call my favourites ~ i love them inquisitive about distinct issues about their taking area in. I actual have virtually no information of musical terminology. i have were given a experience of rhythm, and may nevertheless %. out a straightforward 4/4 or 6/4 progression {this comes from my dancing days}, in spite of the indisputable fact that the proper technical stuff? no longer a clue. So, I base my 'favourites' on the *sound* of their drumming. i received't be in a position to describe to somebody else what's became I heard that stood out, yet * I * will understand that it became some thing particular. MQ : It relies upon. now and again the drumming in a music quite sticks out, different circumstances i'm attentive to it, in spite of the indisputable fact that it blends in properly, and different circumstances i am going to only quite be conscious it after some listens. on celebration, if i'd heard a drummer play in a way that pastimes me, i am going to then make a element of listening heavily for the drums interior some thing of that band's music. MQ2 : As I stated, there is no actual 'why'. It has no longer some thing to do with personality, or if that band is a accepted of mine. it truly is only in protecting with having heard some thing interior of their taking area in that stands-out to me. Random order :~ Mick Fleetwood {Fleetwood Mac} John Bonham {Led Zeppelin} Mitch Mitchell {The Jimi Hendrix journey / Band of Gypsies} Colin Allen {Stone the Crows, among others} Keith Moon {The Who} Clive Bunker / Barriemore Barlow {Jethro Tull} Malcolm Dick {Blackmore's nighttime} %. Withers {Dire Straits}
