Question:
Guitar for left handers- learn the song backwards?

Ok, so not exactly play the SONG backwards, but if you're a left handed guitarist, I'm sure you've heard people say that you just have to learn to play the opposite way right handed guitarists do. So what if I want to play a song by reading tabs? Are the tabs made for either right or lefty guitarists, or is it all the same?

(For example, would E be the same one for righty AND lefty?)

There are two ways to approach this. One was is to just learn to read the tabs backwards (the strings in reverse order). Another way is to actually re-string the guitar os that to right handed people the strings would be in reverse order, but when it is flipped, the strings are in the "correct" order. This way you can read tabs as they are. As far as I've ever heard, they don't write tabs for left handed people unfortunately.

Tabs are almost always made for right handed players. You'd have to position your hand on the appropriate strings/frets just the same to get the chords to play the songs as a lefty would.

Sorry - it's a right handed world!

I'm left-handed and struggled learning to play guitar for this very reason. After a year or two of half-heartedly attempting to teach myself to play the guitar "backwards", I finally just sat myself down and learned how to play right-handed. It's frustrating for a month or two, but it becomes natural eventually.

Excellent answer from cosaxteacher. I would recommend stringing the guitar backwards. It avoids the confusion & right handed guitar players can tell what you are doing & help you easier.
