stan getz and charlie byrd - jazz samba

jazz masters 13 - antonio carlos jobim

astrud gilberto's finest hour

there's enough there to REALLY enhance ANY library

oh....and if you want some modern stuff, but not straight-ahead samba/bossa nova, check out an artist named 'maria rita'....i've got two of her albums (maria rita - self-titled and 'segundo') IT seems like you're cultured enough to dig it...it's fantastic music.

EDIT: alot of that stuff that girl listed isn't samba music; some just falls under latin....and 'sir duke' is an old R&B tune. :)

straight samba is a strictly brazilian form of music and it got infected with a new clave in the 40s/50s....it became 'bossa nova' and that's around when the US jazz musicians started really paying attention.

enrique iglesias is a latin pop star...no samba, some salsa. lol. "soul bossa nova" (great album) isn't samba or bossa nova either; it's quincy's attempt at putting the bossa nova format in a big band and to some real samba purists, it's not worth the ink that printed it, as they say. (i dig it, to an extent) if you're curious as to what it sounds like, just watch 'austin powers'...(the first one) it's that intro song. lots of fun - not at all brazilian, though! lol.

again, happy listening!

Well, you can just go to amazon and look up Samba collections.

Link to a great resource for all music for all forms of Ballroom, Latin and Nightclub dances...

http://www.dance-forums.com/music/genre/samba/

But.. here are some songs, current and traditional that are great Sambas...

Mas Que Nada by Sergio Mendes is great

Soul Bossa Nova - Quincy Jones & his Orchestra

Bailamos - Enrique Iglesias

Eso Beso - Paul Anka

Cha Cha - Chelo (don't let the name fool you, it's a fun samba to dance)

Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder

Heaven Must be Missing and Angel - Tavares

Love is in the Air - John Paul Young

Brazil - Johnny Mathis

The forum is a great resource and like I said, just check Amazon's Samba collections, especially the one's that let you listen first.

Hahaha that's a good one. Christians in Brazil and the rest of the world are a bunch of hypocrites.
