First off, do you have funds? Second, how big of a venue are you looking for? Is it going to be large enough to book good acts? If so, you can look into getting corporate sponsorship. If you don't have $100,000+, then you're going to have to start small, like a pub booking local acts for free. Then you're going to have to depend on your bands becoming popular with you patrons, therefore increasing your revenue by drawing in larger crowds. More money, more funds for larger places, maybe a club booking regional acts, and so forth.

Get good lights and a good PA system depending on the size of the venue. It's been proven that good bass gets the crowd moving. Sell the drinks cheap and open up a grill. The grill will pay for alot. Screen the music. Don't let any crap band play there cuz they'll give your venue a bad rap.
There's this place called the White Rabbit in San Antonio. They have a big stage where the "proven" bands play and a small room for the fresh talent. If the small room sells out, the band moves onto the big stage for their next gig.

first, the venue must be large enough for your needs. second, will you be using your own gear or renting? if it's your own stuff, you must make sure it is well maintained and reliable. if the gear is rented, rent it from a company that is reputable. do your homework regarding the type of equipment bands will and will not use. make contacts in the industry that can help you, (techs, agents, etc,) if you have your own roadie crew, great! if you don't, try to find people who are easy to work with. you may also need your own "in-house" sound guy, monitor guy and lighting tech. surround yourself with people you can trust to do the job, it will make your life easier. also, a professional attitude will help. there is more but my time and space are limited. good luck!

I desire a smaller venue whilst in comparison with great stadiums or stay overall performance halls. For one, the tickets are fairly priced. 2nd, the sound is many times better than sitting in nostril bleed seats. 0.33, I hate coping with fairly great crowds, and small venues make it extreme-high quality whilst getting a drink or basically navigsting in the time of the development.
